Student success coaching is designed to support college students who are at risk of academic probation, currently on academic probation, those who have been dismissed and are seeking readmission, and those in their first semesters back after readmission. This service focuses on helping students understand what led to their academic challenges and develop practical, sustainable strategies for long-term success.
Coaching begins with a comprehensive review of the student’s academic history, current standing, and institutional requirements. Together, we identify patterns related to time management, course load, study habits, motivation, mental health stressors, or life circumstances that may have impacted performance. The goal is not to assign blame, but to create clarity and a realistic path forward.
Students receive structured support in building essential academic and executive functioning skills, including organization, planning, prioritization, effective study strategies, and accountability. Coaching also includes guidance on navigating academic policies, communicating with professors and advisors, and meeting probation or readmission requirements. For students seeking readmission, support may include planning prerequisite coursework, preparing documentation, drafting statements, and developing a clear academic recovery plan.
Academic struggles are often accompanied by a deep sense of shame or embarrassment, which can make it difficult for students to ask for help, communicate honestly, or take next steps. Student success coaching intentionally addresses these emotional barriers. By acknowledging and working through feelings of embarrassment, failure, or self-doubt, students are better able to move forward with confidence rather than avoidance. A central component of student success coaching is rebuilding confidence and helping students separate their academic performance from their sense of self-worth. Students are supported in reframing past experiences, setting achievable goals, and learning how to advocate for themselves within academic systems. Coaching is collaborative and student-centered, emphasizing growth, self-awareness, and ownership of the learning process.
Student success coaching does not replace therapy or academic advising. Instead, it serves as a practical, skills-based layer of support that helps students move from academic difficulty toward stability, progress, and renewed confidence in their ability to succeed in college.
